Ihekweme’s Envy, Hate For Ohakim

Ihekweme’s Envy, Hate For Ohakim

By Collins Ughalaa KSC

From the time it was rumoured that former Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, is running for Imo North Senate, to Sunday, May 8, when he declared officially that he is indeed running for Senate, politically displaced persons like one Fabian Ihekweme has been on the prowl. This man called Ihekweme goes by the title of Dr., even though he has been severally challenged to prove that he earned it. Many have therefore concluded – reasonably – that he procured his so called doctorate from Jankara Market. But he is shameless he cannot denounce the ‘fake’ doctorate and free himself.

Also called Omu, Ihekweme has been manufacturing and spreading false stories about Dr. Ikedi Ohakim. To be clear, Ihekweme is now of a faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but he has now taken up the role of spreading hate against Ohakim – his benefactor. We do not begrudge Ihekweme for his choice to support any candidate he likes for Okigwe Zone Senate. We take exception to his unwarranted shenanigan against the person of the former Governor whose shoe lace he cannot untie. In Igbo land, only those that were not well brought up enjoy hauling invective on their elders for no just cause.

Having been butted out of the Shared Prosperity Government for obvious reasons, Ihekweme has now become a challenged character and does not worth anybody’s time. If Omu could not show respect for his elder brother, the late Marcel Ihekweme – may his soul rest in peace – who sent him to India even when it was said he could not pass WAEC, we wonder who else he would respect. Having been sent to India on another man’s sweat, what did he do? Sources say he abandoned classes and deviated to studying the dark art of magic under a Hindu Guru. In the process, he was said to have been bitten by a cobra. His late brother was said to have intervened and flew him to Germany to have the venom drained from his system. There are stories that the medics did not achieve complete success of that endeavour, leading to the belief that the reason Ihekweme behaves the way he does is because he has cobra’s venom in him. That is why he suffers from mood swing. The English man describes one who acts with venom as being toxic. You can then imagine a man who has had untreated venom deposit in his blood for more than 20 years. His principal character trait would be spitting out toxin to immobilise everyone around him.

Omu behaves like he is some political colossus whereas he is just one irritable ant. This irritable posturing is the reason many people wonder what his political value is, to the extent that a former Governor who is running for Senate should beware of him, or dread him? From what many can see, Omu’s political value is zero. From what people can remember, Omu’s political emergence was when he reportedly forged documents making himself the governorship candidate of Accord Party. God helped Imo as INEC saw through the charade and rightly and timeously deleted his name from the ballot. What followed was that he saw that disgraceful outing as an opportunity to trade.

Challenged characters like Omu should eternally be grateful that Governor Ohakim was magnanimous enough to tolerate him and made him Chairman of Imo Newspapers at a time. But what did he do at Imo Newspapers? He went there to fight, reportedly sold their equipment and ran away only to return under Emeka Ihedioha. He thought his sins were forgotten but he was sidelined when they noticed his toxic character. Unable to bear it, he ran to SamDaddy but abandoned him afterwards. He was given a second chance by the magnanimous Governor Hope Uzodimma but he showed his flaws yet again as he was said to have engaed in actions outside his call of duty, reportedly serially embezzling funds and was detained by the Police severally. He engaged in street fight and had to jump from the window to avoid being beaten on more than one occasion. Today, he is back to his vomit and has as usual availed himself to be used against Ohakim by his sworn enemies of yesterday.

It is not our business whom Omu chooses to dine with, but we want to place a caveat: those who are erroneously imagining that they can deploy Fabian as an arrow to rain abuses on his superiors should know that he is a poisoned chalice and would sooner than later bare his fangs to spit the undrained venom in him on them. However, Ihekweme’s tantrums are mere distractions that should not get more than passing attention. There are more important issues on the road to choosing the next Okigwe Senate. These are issues we can entertain and not tantrums from a challenged, venomous fellow.

Speaking on the issues concerning Okigwe Zone Senate on Sunday, Ohakim hinted at what is expected of the next Okigwe Senator. He said: “Any representation not predicted on knowledge-based capacity, founded on clear understanding of the operating environment with a corresponding learning curve experience, built on contact and cognition, would amount to engaging in lethal war with bows and arrows. Okigwe zone must begin to be reasonably worried about our future as a people, the promises to our youths, the kind of infrastructure that must be put in place to open up our zone for sustainable economic activities/development and the need to be critical players in providing direction for the Igbo nation”.

In the face of the more germane issues on choosing the next Okigwe Senator, paying attention to little minds like Fabian would amount to paying heed to distractions. In the light of this, we call on the people of Okigwe Zone to hiss on Omu’s tantrums because they amount to nothing.
