BREAKING: Court Sacks APC Governorship Candidate Shortly After Winning Ticket

The victory of Chief Ikechi Emenike at the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has been declared void by the Abia High Court.

Emenike was declared winner of the APC governorship primary election, which held on Thursday.

However, a court sitting presided over by Justice O. A Chijioke, nullified Emenike’s victory.

In a suit instituted by Mr. Chinedum Nwole and two others, the court declared Emenike of lacking the locus standi to partake in the contest, owing to his suspension from the party.

Justice Chijioke ruled that Emenike and the Abia state APC chairman, Chief Donatus Nwamkpa breached article 9.3 of the APC constitution by going ahead to participate in the primary election.

The court also declared their participation in the ward, local council, state and the recently held national convention of the party as illegal.

The judgement read in part:

“That by the virtue of the suspension of the first defendant (Emenike) as a member of the second defendant (APC), the first defendant cannot participate in whatever form whatsoever in the activities of the second defendant including the scheduled ward, local government, state and national congresses of the second defendant due to to take place between 2021 and 2022″.
