Jigawa APC delegate dies in Abuja

A delegate of the All Progressives Congress from Jigawa State, Alh. Isa Baba Buji, has died in Abuja.

Although the circumstances surrounding his death are yet unknown, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media Publicity, Laolu Akande, announced the death on his Twitter handle.

“VP Osinbajo [is] saddened by [the] news of the death this afternoon, in Abuja, of Alh. Isa Baba Buji, 61, one of our APC delegates from Buji Local Government, Jigawa State. He extends heartfelt condolence to his family, associates, government and people of the state and prays his soul rests in peace,” he wrote.

Police securing the venue of the All Progressives Congress presidential primary election have used tear gas to disperse supporters of aspirants and journalists.

The supporters and journalists were tear gassed after they were denied entry into the venue.

Seven presidential aspirants reject APC northern govs’ five-man list

Seven Presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have rejected the names of five presidential aspirants submitted to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as most preferred by northern governors.

The aspirants protested that they were not consulted before the northern governors arrived at the decision.

I am still in presidential race, says Yahaya Bello

Despite the decision of his counterparts to zone the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket to the south, a presidential aspirant, Yahaya Bello, has affirmed that he is still in the race for the top office. 

The Kogi State Governor disclosed this to State House Correspondents shortly after meeting the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the State House, Abuja. 

The governor noted that President Buhari supports a free and fair contest, warning that the party may be toeing a perilous path if he is excluded from the list of aspirants at the party’s conventi

Ex-High Commissioner to India accuses APC of manipulating delegate list

A former High Commissioner of Nigeria to India and delegate from Enugu State, Major General (retd.), Chris Eze, has accused the leader of the delegates team from his state of manipulating the delegate list. 

The aggrieved delegate told our correspondent that they are being cheated and he felt the world must see the corruption ongoing in his state. 

According to him, the list they previously had was different from this until they got to the accreditation venue at the International Conference Centre, Abuja and saw a difference

Accredited delegates arrive Eagle Square

Some accredited delegates have arrived at Eagle Square, the venue of the All Progressives Congress presidential primary election.

So far, only three states have been accredited; Ogun, Benue, and Lagos.

Delegates from three states have been accredited in the All Progressives Congress presidential primary election is ongoing at the International Conference Center in Abuja.

Journalists are not being allowed into the venue of the accreditation. 

However, a member of the committee and a chieftain of the party in Delta, Barry Eka, told our correspondent that delegates from three states have so far completed their accreditation.

Delegates, APC ad hoc officials clash over accreditation

Delegates and some ad hoc officials at the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress clashed at the venue of the party’s national convention.

Accreditation commenced after the misunderstanding was resolved.

It was learnt that delegates were expected to be issued accreditation tags before proceeding to Eagle Square, the venue of the primary.

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, explained that the clash was caused by unregistered delegates

Buhari, Yahaya Bello in closed-door meeting – Report

A presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress is reportedly in a closed-door meeting with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as delegates begin accreditation ahead of the presidential primary.

The Governor of Kogi State has reportedly disagreed with the APC National Working Committee regarding a consensus candidate for the party at the 2023 presidential election.

The National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, had reportedly announced the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as the APC consensus presidential candidate, which has raised eyebrows within the party.

Southeast aspirants urge Buhari to consider Southern candidate

All Progressives Congress presidential aspirants from the Southeast have urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to field a candidate from the region.

According to a letter to the President dated June 6, 2022, the aspirants said “we are humbly requesting that you consider and pick your chosen candidate from the southeast aspirants in line with your stated objectives of handing over to trusted party loyalists. 

“We humbly seek your Excellency’s prompt and kind intervention to enable the party delegates to assume proper guidance.” 

Signatories to the letter include Ikeobasi Mokelu, former ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, and Uju Ahanenye. 

Former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, though listed among signatories, did not append his signature to the letter.
