Madumere Vs Imo Govt: Watchdog For Democracy And Rule Of Law Cautions Imo State Govt For Turning Imo Into A Lawless State

A group under the aegis of Watchdog For Democratic Governance and Rule Of Law has expressed regrets over the shameful and mischievous show put up by some hirelings suspected to have been sponsored by Imo State Government for putting the State in the world map as Lawless

A number of jobless youths numbering about 25 who were found fighting over N1500 as fee for each who participated in the shameful show, walking the street of Owerri in pretence to be protesting against Prince Eze Madumere, former Deputy Governor of Imo State.

According to their tersely scribbles statement, they had alleged that the former Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere wants to loot Imo treasury through National Industrial Court of Nigeria, an accusation that is strange in any civilized nation.

The Civil Society group described Prince Madumere as a clean person who is revered by most Imolites because of his strength of character, wondering the reason a group would hurriedly to the street over a court judgment.

The group queries if the Government of the day was not a respondent to the matter before the ruling.

According to the Convener, Mr. Mike Ilechukwu: ” We have read the judgment and have not found where Prince Eze Madumere erred by seeking to recover his eight years of unpaid statutory emoluments.

“We expect government of Imo State to appeal the judgment rather than take laws into its hand by exposing Imo youths to a false life of lawlessness.

“From our investigations, those who were contracted to pay them even fles with their money their leaving others fighting while sharing the little available funds.

“According to one of the boys who joined in the inglorious street walk who simple introduced himself as Ikechukwu, he wished that the money spent on t-shirts and caps should have been given to him cash as he came all the way from Oru East and had only N1000 on him”.

The group warned against engaging in acts that will bring about anarchy in the state that is already overwhelmed by killing of innocent young men and women.

They advised Governor Uzodimma to be wary of bad advisers who are deceiving him. “If the Governor has anything to say, he can call Prince Eze Madumere for a discussion.

“We are aware of his sacrifices before Governor Uzodimma secured APC votes and it will be somewhat a witch hunt if the government fails to pay him his monies.

“Madumere has a very clean record even until serves out of Imo Stat. We hold him in high esteem. He is innocent of any corrupt practices neither has he ever been involved in any abandoned contracts or embezzled public fund in any guise.

“We suggest that such monies should be invested in a trade that will provide employment and stop turning them into Prospective miscreants.

“Let us not forget that if at all the Government is the chief sponsor, it means that there is no hope under this administration that we all fought to institute.

“The best any civilized person can do is to approach an appellate court, which Imo State Government had done after molesting innocent officials of the Court and taking laws into their hand.

“We warn that it is a very dangerous trend to have government challenge the ruling of the court on the street. In democracies, Rule of Law is the guiding principle that sustains it”.
