The social media was awash with the news of the alleged defection of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Lawan: A troubled legislator
Following his defeat at the APC presidential primaries to Bola Tinubu, Lawan is fighting hard to return to the red chamber.
This is just as The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Yobe North Senatorial District, Bashir Sheriff Machina, has insisted that he won’t relinquish his ticket to Senate President Ahmed Lawan.
Lawan joined the race for Presidency ahead of 2023 but lost the primaries to former Lagos Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Machina who has now won the ticket for Yobe North Senatorial District, says he’s been asked by members of the party if he is still in the race.
He, however, maintained that he is still in the race and has no plan to give up the ticket.
The report of Lawan’s alleged defection first appeared on popular Nigerian Forum, Nairaland.
It was shared by the username teadrake and titled Ahmed Lawan Has Defected To PDP.
The user wrote, “During plenary yesterday, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan announced his defection from APC to PDP.

However, findings by IDOMA VOICE have shown that the viral video, which captured Lawan announcing the defection of a lawmaker was not his but that of Senator Mohammed Adamu Aliero.
