Appoint Experts To Commence Groundwork For Delivery, Group Advises Tinubu

Ahead of May 29 inauguration, a support group of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the North-South Progressive Alliance has urged the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately select a compact team of experts that will commence the groundwork of classifying deliverables in the “Renewed Hope” manifesto into Short, Medium and Long term plans.

Setting the agenda for the incoming administration, the group said the short-term action plans should be geared towards delivering quick wins to Nigerians, particularly the youth within 100 days while they plan for a medium term of 1-2 years and a long term of 2-4 years. 

The spokesperson for the alliance, Elton Onwu spoke with newsmen in Abuja while congratulating tbe President-elect for a well-deserved victory at the polls.

Onwu noted that the quick wins being envisaged would go a long way to excite Nigerians and increase the public perception of the incoming administration.

He said: “Delivering quick wins within 100 days will excite Nigerians, signpost an administration that has hit the ground running, and shore up the approval rating of Asiwaju Tinubu. This is very crucial to healing the wounds of an acrimonious campaign and a divided electorate in the aftermath of the elections.”

Disturbed by the party’s reward system, the group urged Tinubu to consider dissolving all long-time political appointees in government parastatal to pave way for fresh hands within the party to address the grievances of the majority of our party members who have long been neglected. 

According to the group, “It is time to entrench a veritable reward system within the APC. This will go a long way in ensuring the effective delivery of our action plan and solidifying our base, down to the grassroots.

“Whilst we take cognisance of the antecedents of President-elect Tinubu in rewarding loyalty and hard work, we seize this medium to remind him of his promise to consider the appointment of capable youths as Ministers, Heads of Agencies in line with the “Renewed Hope” Manifesto, where at least 20% of political appointments into MDAs were promised the youth. At least six Ministers for those aged 49 and below were also part of the pact with the people.

“Fulfilling this pact will go a long way in calming frayed nerves amongst the youth demography and boosting public confidence in the administration.

Admitting the right of opposition to protest the outcome of the election, having lost to APC, the group frowned at the attempt to delegitimize the hard-earned victory.

“We frown at attempts by some overzealous opposition elements to delegitimize Asiwaju Tinubu’s victory by inciting the public and international media through exaggerated reports of hitches during the elections or through acts of sponsored civil disobedience.

“The Nigerian people spoke on February 25, and they spoke loud and clear by electing Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Sen. Kashim Shettima as President and Vice-President, respectively.  The North-South Progressive Alliance (NOSPA) stands by this popular choice and wishes the incoming administration a very successful and impactful tenure.”

The women leader of the group, Dr Yetunde Adeniji appealed for peace, advising the opposition to call their members and supporters to order and avoid heightening tension.

“If there is anything that we need in this country, it is peace. Somebody must win in an election. Let us join hands with the winners and give peace a chance for the progress and development of our country,” Adeniji advised.
