TOPIC: EARLY SKILLS LEARNING

So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers. Acts 18:3.

When children can do the things they want or need to do, they’re more likely to cooperate. They’re also less likely to get frustrated and behave in challenging ways. This means that helping children learn new skills can be an important part of managing behaviour.

When children learn new skills, they also build independence, confidence and self-esteem. So helping children learn new skills can be an important part of supporting overall development too.

In Acts 18:3, the Bible says, For by their occupation – by their trade, they were tent makers. This shows they had been brought up to this business. It was a regular custom among the Jews to train up their children to some useful employment, that they might have the means of an honest livelihood. Even though they were instructed in the liberal sciences, yet they deemed a handicraft trade, or some honorable occupation, an aspect of education that cannot be set aside or ignored.

THOUGHTS FOR REFLECTION
Are you ignoring early skill learning by thinking that is not yet time to help your child develop one skill or the other? Reconsider starting today!

Song
Teach me thus Thy steps to trace,
Strong to follow in Thy grace.
Learning how to love from Thee,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Prayer
Heavenly father, our children are wonderful gifts from you. Help us to give them the best we can afford in Jesus mighty name, amen.
