TOPIC: The Living Foundation Stone

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Jesus is the foundation of our faith. No other foundation can bring us the salvation that we need. He desires that our services to Him be a living one without the filth of error and sin.
As we live and serve each day, we are building upon the foundation already laid and the materials used for the building shall someday be tested by fire and it’s quality shall be made manifest, whether it be good or bad. But the gold of faith shall remain imperishable.
God will not accept the most splendid service, or the most brilliant talent, unless it is laid upon, and connected with, the living foundation stone; for this alone gives true value to the ability possessed, and makes it a living service to God. We may look back through centuries, and see the living stones gleaming like jets of light through the rubbish of moral darkness, errors, and superstition. These precious jewels shine with continually increasing luster, not alone for time, but for eternity. It makes every difference what material is used in character building. The long-expected day of God will soon test every man’s work. ‘The fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.’ As fire reveals the difference between gold, silver, and precious stones, and wood, hay, and stubble, so the day of judgment will test characters, showing the difference between characters formed after Christ’s likeness and characters formed after the likeness of the selfish heart. All selfishness, all false religion, will then appear as it is. The worthless material will be consumed; but the gold of true, simple, humble faith will never lose its value.

Thought for Reflection
As we form our lives everyday by our lives and living, it is important we ask God to give us the faith we need to build our characters with faith in Christ which is founded upon God’s word as this is the only material that can stand the test of time. This is the only safety we have on the day that our characters shall be tested in the fire of trial and judgement.
