ENTRACO Boss Commends Imo People For Participating In Clean Up Exercise

The General Manager of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO), Engr. Francis Chukwu, has commended Owerri residents for adhering to the last Saturday Environmental sanitation exercise.

He described the exercise as successful while advising the residents to inculcate the culture of cleanliness and ensure that their environment is always clean of filth and destructive inorganic materials like plastics.

Speaking with reported on phone, Engr. Chukwu said Governor Uzodimma led Government spends a lot resources to desilt gutters and other drainages, warning those who have the habit of inappropriately disposing such inorganic materials, using such to cause blockages. He said such misdemeanours causes flooding.

He also commended Uzodimma for approving monthly sanitation and for providing logistics with which the cleaning of the capital city and the state in general has been made easier.

He also warned about the consequences of the aquatic lives when streams and rivers are polluted with poisonous substances.

While monitoring the exercise, this reporter visited Douglas road where some transport workers were clearing the gutter.

One of the workers who simply identified himself as Chima decried the attitude of the sweepers of the major state roads, accusing them of blocking the gutters and causing stench and mosquitoes, which have been tormenting them.
