4 Reported killed As Police, Task Force Battle Area Boys In Mile 2 Lagos

Area boys and trailer drivers this Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023, blocked the Mile 2 end of Oshodi – Apapa Express Road to protest the shooting and killing of a trailer driver by men of the Lagos State Task Force. Reports say that four persons died from gunshots during the clashes.

An eyewitness told News Express that the trailer driver was coming from Apapa when the task force flagged him down and demanded money from him. The driver, according to the eyewitness, told the task force that he had settled their people at the Coca Cola Bus Stop and did not have any money left to give them.

The eyewitness said that the police men dared the driver to move an inch without giving them money.

“Accordingly, the driver entered the vehicle and turned on the ignition but when he wanted to move, one of the police men shot him twice and they opened the truck, brought him out and put him at the back of their Hilux van and began to drive towards Maza Maza,” the source told News Express.

He said that on their way they task force members realised that the man had died, turned back and brought him to the trailer and dropped the dead body beside it.

“The area boys in mile two saw what happened, raised alarm and the policemen jumped into their Hilux and ran away. The area boys then blocked the two sides of the road and began to burn tyres on the middle of the road.

“Later a reinforced team of police and army came and began to throw tear gas to disperse the protesters,” the eyewitness said.

The police have yet to comment on the development, the news of which was earlier broken by News Express.
