Ahead Of Tribunal Verdict, Kano Youths Besiege Streets In Kano, Demand Justice

Hundreds of youths from all the 44 local government areas of Kano State, who were mostly followers of the Kwankwasiyya movement, besieged major entrances of Kano city, calling for justice ahead of Governorship Election Petition Tribunal judgment in the last gubernatorial election.

The youth, wearing white attire and red caps, prayed for peace and victory at the tribunal, which is expected to deliver its judgment in the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

Six major entrances were occupied by the youth on Thursday, including Maiduguri Road, Zaria Road, Hadejia Road, Katsina Road, Madobi Road and Gwarzo Road respectively.

A special prayer session was conducted for the success of the NNPP government at the Election Tribunal.

However, most of the Kwankwasiyya followers, as well as members of the NNPP are afraid that they may not get justice at the court, as the tribunal is set to deliver its verdict in the governorship poll.

Speaking at one of the prayer grounds along Maiduguri road, the state chairperson of the NNPP Women’s Wing, Hajia Zuwaira Abubakar, said they were praying against some groups who are hell-bent on removing Yusuf as governor of Kano State.

She said: “We are aware of the notorious and criminal underground moves to subvert our hard-earned victory of the NNPP government in Kano State which is why we turn to Allah for divine intervention.”

The oppositeion, APC, had gone to the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, challenging the victory of Yusuf of the NNPP as the governor of Kano State in the March 18, 2023 poll.
