Title: Waiting and Working

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’” – 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Just like adults, kids can also feel impatient and restless when they have to wait. Whether it’s waiting for a turn on the playground or waiting for our favorite meal to be ready, patience can be a challenge. Waiting for something we really want, like a new toy or a fun event, can be tough. But have you ever wondered why waiting is a part of our live even when it comes to God? Sometimes, we may find ourselves feeling anxious and discontent when we have to wait for God’s plans to unfold. Well, the Bible has something to say about waiting and working. In the book of 2 Thessalonians, the Apostle Paul teaches us important lessons that can help us while we wait.

Paul tells the believers in Thessalonica about the dangers of idleness, which means not doing anything or avoiding work. He reminds them of the example set by Jesus, who worked as a carpenter while He was on earth. Paul himself followed Jesus’ example and worked hard to support himself and not burden others. He tells the Thessalonians, “We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling” (2 Thessalonians 3:7-8).

So, what does this mean for us? It means that even when we’re waiting for something, we should still be working hard and doing good. We should follow the example of Jesus and Paul by being responsible and not depending on others for everything. We shouldn’t just sit around and do nothing. Idle hands can lead us to gossip or get involved in things we shouldn’t.

Instead, let’s develop the habit of working hard in everything we do. Whether it’s helping our parents with chores, doing well in school, or being kind to others, we can make a difference by doing good. Even though waiting can be hard, let’s remember that our hard work will bear fruit in due time.

Remember, even in our waiting, God has important work for us to do. Let’s stay focused, work hard, and trust that God’s plans for us are good. May we never tire of doing what is good and continue to grow in patience, faith, and character.

Prayer
Dear God, Thank you for reminding us that waiting does not mean we should be idle. Help us to understand that even in our waiting, there is important work for us to do. Give us the strength and motivation to work hard in everything we do, just as Jesus and Paul did. Help us to be patient and trust in your perfect timing. May our efforts bear fruit and bring glory to your name. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
