United Bank For Africa (UBA) has recorded frightening incident that will for a long time remain traumatic to both staff and the customers from its immediate business environs in Otukpo, Benue State .
Worse still, the bank’s security architecture could muster up security strategies to resist such expectant incident to the extent that its fresh staff, whose name is Emmanuel Uche Best, from Umuaku, Isuochi Umunneochi Local Government Area, LGA of Abia State, was monstrously murdered unprotected.
Emmanuel Uche Best who attended and graduated from the Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo, had high hopes, and was ready to embrace a bright future. Behold, that hope was dashed at the banking hall of UBA.
According to sources”, Emmanuel completed mandatory NYSC in June 2023, got a job with the United Bank for Africa, UBA, having met all the expected requirement, but that dream of a banker with finesse was brutally cut short in a robbery robbery attack at the branch of UBA in Otukpo on Friday, on the 20th of October.
The sources recorded that as at 3pm Friday afternoon, Emmanuel was alive and doing his job but the notorious armed robbers did not spare his life in the attack that affected other banks like First Bank, Access, Stanbic IBTC and Zenith Banks, living his family enveloped in misery, ever flowing tears and emotional trauma.
Recall that on Friday, the 20th of October, 2023, daredevil armed robbers stormed three bank branches in the Otukpo area of Benue State and carted away money in several millions, killing about seven (7) people including a former counselor who was transacting business and Emmanuel Uche-Best who worked with UBA branch in the state.
An eyewitness quoted by some sources, who simply identified himself as Sunny said the robbers first attacked the police station before proceeding to the banks and it must have been the sporadic gunshots that may have hit Emmanuel and killed him on the spot.
When NewsTrack Nigeria learned of the incident and after fact-checking the facts last Friday the incident was reported, the Deputy Managing Director, DMD of the bank, Mr. Muyiwa Akinyemi heartlessly covened a meeting clamouring for staff to pursue deposits and account opening with the bank.
According to disgruntled staff of the bank, “There was robbery in the bank in Benue on Friday, we feel for the sake of sympathy and the respect for the dead, the DMD shouldn’t have proceeded with the meeting he had on Saturday morning, charging members if staff put in for deposits”.
