Topic: There is freedom in self-control
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. Titus 2:6
Self-control is an important thing to learn. Just like we learn to control our bodies when we use the potty, we also need to learn to control our actions and thoughts. Sometimes we might feel like doing things that are not good for us, like being mean to others or saying hurtful things. But when we have self-control, we can choose to do the right thing instead. When we ask Jesus to be in our lives, He gives us the gift of self-control. This means that with His help, we can make good choices and follow Him closely. Self-control doesn’t limit us, it actually sets us free to live the way Jesus wants us to.As we grow in our faith, it’s important for older believers to help younger believers learn about self-control too. We can teach them how to make good choices and follow Jesus. We can also pray and sing hymns together, asking God to help us have self-control and live in a way that pleases Him.
Thought for Reflection
What is something that you find it hard to control yourself in? It’s okay to ask for help. Who can you talk to for guidance in this area? Are you open to helping younger Christians learn and grow? What is one thing you can do today to make sure you help someone this week?
Song
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for giving us the gift of self-control. Help us to make good choices and follow Jesus. Please give us the strength to control our actions and thoughts. In Jesus’ name, amen.
