Soldier Reportedly Shot At Police Checkpoint, Dies

The soldier at the centre of the recent clash between soldiers and policemen in Adamawa State has reportedly lost his life.

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri disclosed this after an emergency security meeting over the clash, which climaxed on Tuesday night, November 21, 2023.

The Governor, governor who addressed a briefing immediately after the meeting on Wednesday night, disclosed that the military and police lost one officer each during the clash.

He told reporters: “We have taken note of the men of both sides that lost their lives and those who were injured. The understanding now is that the heads of the sister security agencies are on top of their men and this kind of thing will not happen again.”

The Governor repeated this in a tweet on Thursday morning, saying on his official X account: “Addressed an emergency security meeting in Yola following the regrettable clash between Nigerian Army and Police.

“The conflict near Target Junction has been resolved, with a commitment to justice and collaboration for the peace of Adamawa and Nigeria.

“My condolences for the loss of one officer from both sides. We urge restraint to prevent a recurrence.”

Trouble started when policemen from the Adamawa police Command Headquarters in Yola shot and injured a soldier at a checkpoint leading to a fracas that ensured between the two security agencies on Tuesday.

The affected soldier, who was shot in the leg by a policeman at Target Junction, was later rushed to Federal Medical Centre Yola for medical attention.

Some soldiers later stormed the Police Command Headquarters at about 11 pm, during which there was heavy exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of a Police Inspector.

The Identities of the deceased soldier and police officer have not been disclosed.
