Tinubu’s Reign Of Whip And Scorpion: Over 200 Houses Marked For Demolition In Abuja For President’s Fleet

The reign of President Tinubu has been that of chastisement with whip and scorpions following the hardship and infliction of abject poverty on Nigerians.

Shortly after his swearing-in and taking oath of office, the first gift to Nigerians was to lacerate them with a jambok by the removal of subsidy on pump price of petroleum products, thereby plunging industrialists and the suffering masses to harsher living standard.

This was followed by the promise of aides to the suffering masses and still ended up mocking them by sharing less than two cups of rice to the less than 5 percent of the populace.

The latest development is demolition of Houses of Nigerians who were alleged to have built in areas that were gree verges, water ways yet the lands in question were allocated by the Government of Lagos State and Federal Housing Auhtority.

About 48 hours ago, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ordered the demolition of more than 200 houses in the Nuwalege community for the presidential fleet plot.

According to reports, Wike gave the order on Tuesday in Abuja through the Director of the Department of Development Control, Tpl Mukhtar Galadima who said that the directive is a request from the Nigerian Air Force.

Galadima speaking on behalf of Wike during a community and citizen engagement said the Air Force plans to use the area for the presidential fleet project.

The former Governor of Rivers State hinted that it had become imperative for the Nuwalege community along the Airport Road to give way for development.

“About a month ago, the authority of the Nigerian Air Force wrote to the honourable minister on their needs and desire to remove this village, because it is part of the presidential fleet plots,” Galadima said.

“So, the minister in his wisdom requested them to allow the FCT administration to handle it, because it’s the responsibility of FCT administration. The Nigerian Air Force approached the Department of Development Control on their desire.

“So, as part of our responsibility, we have to do what you call a community and citizens engagement which is why we are here today to discuss with the community and to tell them our intention.

“This is because it will be unfair to just bring the machine here and start removing their houses.

“So, we visited the chiefs at his palace to meet him and we told him our reason for coming to this place today.”

With the situation in Nigeria, some Nigerians are already describing the All Progressives Congress Government as a curse if not a punishment to Nigerians.

Labour Party 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, Reacts

piqued by the development, the Labour Party 2023 presidential standard bearer, Peter Obi, has faulted the planned demolition of about “200 houses” in the Nuwalege community of Abuja to make way for the expansion of the presidential fleet.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Obi said he was shocked and at the same time pained by the development. He described it as “an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship.”

“I am shocked by the recent report of the planned demolition of about 200 houses in the Nuwalege community in Abuja, to make way for the Presidential Fleet.

“I am again pained that we are embarking on such an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is going through untold hardship,” he said.

The ex-governor of Anambra State the preoccupation of leaders at the moment should be on how to do away with the Presidential Fleet or reduce it to the minimum, “to cut costs and save up for more critical projects to help the people, instead of demolishing people’s homes”.

Obi said instead of increasing the presidential fleet, the government should rather look for ways to reduce or eliminate costs.

“We cannot continue to encourage those who have kept us suffering to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle far beyond our legitimate means. A democratically elected people-oriented government must always care for the people, above itself,” the Labour Party chieftain said.

“I, therefore, advise that we have a rethink, and most importantly, ensure that our fellow Nigerians are not rendered homeless for the sake of an unproductive presidential fleet.

The question is that it is either this Presidency is government for the purposes of luxurious life style or they not not have any agenda for the people of the country.
