Title: A Way of Approach

You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm. . . . But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. Hebrews 12:18-22

Have you ever been scared of something? Maybe a loud noise or a big storm? In the Old Testament, it was not unusual for people to be afraid and in awe of God’s presence. For example, in Exodus 20:18-19, “when the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, ‘Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.’” The people were scared of being in God’s presence because they knew they were sinful and that God is holy and awesome, with power beyond imagining.
But guess what? Something amazing happened! Jesus came to earth and died on the cross for us. When Jesus died, he experienced the same separation from God that scared the people in the Bible. But Jesus did it to pay for our sins and make a way for us to be close to God.
Now, because of Jesus, we can approach God anytime and anywhere. We don’t have to be scared anymore! God loves us so much that He made Himself accessible to all people through His Son, Jesus.
So, how can we approach God? We can talk to Him in prayer, just like we talk to our friends. We can read the Bible and learn more about Him. And most importantly, we can believe in Jesus and trust that He has forgiven our sins.

Thought for Reflection:
God’s love and grace are available to us through Jesus. Let’s take time each day to talk to God, read the Bible, and remember that we can approach Him because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us.

Song
Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne,
And thus surround the throne.
Refrain
We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.

Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for providing the way for us to come to you – by sending Jesus to die for our sins – the one and only Savior and make a way for us to approach you. Help us to remember that we can come to you at any time and that you love us unconditionally. Help us to live for you always In Jesus’ name, Amen.
