The face off between the two African Footballing giants in Group A was settled at the Stade Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe.
The star studded match ended goalless in the first half of the game. It was in the second half after 53rd minute when their was an infringement against the Super Eagles Striker, Victor Osimhen eliciting an award of penalty to the Eagles.
The Eagles Skipper, William Troost-Ekong confidently converted the spot kick in the 55th minute putting Nigeria ahead.Osimhen played alone at the front to ensure less risk at the goal.
The Eagles tactful play with hard work and determination left the Ivorians working in vain.
Nigerian Defence: An Impregnable Rock
The five at the back worked for Nigeria as they restricted Ivory Coast to just one shot on target all match.
Equally, the Super Eagles had only three shots on target themselves, and one of those was the goal from the penalty spot.
For now, Nigeria are close to qualifying, but the hosts must win on the final day of matches in the group as they slip to third.
