If law is not an ass, the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu would have been better described as fait accompli as Edo State Governor Governor Obaseki late this Monday morning, April 8, 2024, has sworn-in 38 years old Omobayo Marvellous Godwin as his new Deputy.
The development is coming barely minutes after the original occupant of the position, Comrade Philip Shaibu, was impeached by the State House of Assembly.
Omobayo was until his appointment a chieftain of the opposition Labour Party (LP).
The embattled Shaibu was sacked by the lawmakers during Monday’s plenary session.
The impeachment followed an investigation led by Justice S.A Omonua and a seven-man panel into the impeachment petition against Governor Obaseki’s deputy.
