Title: Choose God, Not Idols

Every man is brutish in his knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image; for there is no breath in them.” (Jeremiah 10:14)

God loves us so much that He wants us to be safe and happy. He warns us to stay away from things that can hurt us, like idols and bad habits.

Do you know what “brutish” means? It’s a big word that means acting silly or foolish, especially when we think we know everything on our own. In the Bible, God talks about how people try to make statues or images that they worship but these statues can’t do anything because they’re just statues made of silver and gold, and they can’t speak or move—they don’t have any breath in them!

Imagine if you had a toy that couldn’t move or talk. You wouldn’t expect it to help you, right? That’s how idols are—they can’t do anything because they’re not alive like God. They do not have breath or life in them.

God wants us to choose Him instead of idols. He is the true God, the living God! He is always with us, ready to help and protect us. When we follow God and stay away from bad things like smoking, stealing, and hurting others, we stay safe and close to Him.

Let’s remember that God is living and real, unlike statues or toys. We can trust in Him and ask for His help whenever we need it! So let’s choose God over idols and bad habits, because He loves us and wants what’s best for us!

Thought for Reflection
Think about something you really love or have, like a toy or a game. How does it make you feel? Why can’t it move or talk like you can?

Life Application:
Choose God Over Idols:

  1. Think of something you love to do, like playing a game or drawing. Thank God for giving you things you enjoy.
  2. Talk to your parents or a grown-up about how to stay away from things that can hurt you, like bad habits.
  3. When you feel tempted to do something you know is wrong, pray and ask God to help you make the right choice. Song
Have thine own way, Lord! Have thine own way!
Thou art the potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me after thy will,
while I am waiting, yielded and still. Prayer
Dear God, thank You for being a living and real God who loves us and warns us to stay away from things that can hurt us. Help us to trust in You instead of thinking we know everything on our own. Help us to choose You over idols and bad habits. When we’re tempted to do something wrong, confused or unsure, remind us of Your love and protection – that You are always with us and can help us. We want to trust in You and follow Your ways and make You happy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
