JUST IN: Verydarkman Remains Police Custody Despite Pleading Not Guilty
Popular content creator and rights activist Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, was arraigned in court on Wednesday and has been remanded until next Wednesday, May 29.
Reacting to his detention on his X handle, @UncleDeji said, “I learnt VeryDarkMan was arraigned again in court today. Remanded till next week Wednesday for his bail application. What’s happening?”
Although the specific details of the allegations against him remain undisclosed, VDM appeared in court this morning and reportedly pleaded not guilty to charges of cyberstalking.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, reportedly applied for bail, but the prosecution requested more time to respond, leading the court to adjourn the bail hearing to May 29.
This isn’t the first time the social media commentator has had encounters with law enforcement.
In March 2023, VeryDarkMan was detained in Abuja for allegedly bullying Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh online and accusing her of being behind the controversial blog Gistlover.
The news of his arrest was first reported by Instagram blogger @officialstelladimokokorkus and confirmed by actress Doris Ogala, who commended Tonto Dikeh for her actions.
Doris Ogala also expressed her satisfaction on social media, wishing VeryDarkMan a “pleasant stay” in Kiri Kiri prison and praising Tonto Dikeh for taking legal action against him. @officialstelladimokokorkus reported, “ACTRESS TONTO DIKEH ARRESTS SOCIAL MEDIA CRITIC VERY DARK MAN FOR ALLEGED CYBERBULLYING AND THREAT TO LIFE FROM POSTING THAT SHE CO-RUNS TOXIC BLOG THAT RUNS PEOPLE DOWN.”
It is worth noting that the controversial influencer was previously arrested in January and March 2024, spending a total of nine days in prison before being released.
Multiple petitions had been filed against him, leading to his detainment by police.
