Insecurity: Imo Catholic Archdiocese Provides Security Outfit Over Insecurity Within Church Premises

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province in Imo State has launched a security outfit aimed at addressing insecurity within church premises.

At the official unveiling held at the Obiri Odenigbo Pavilion at Maria Assumpta Owerri, Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, the Catholic Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province, emphasized that the initiative was a direct response to prevailing security challenges in the state and the nation. He underscored the importance of supporting government efforts by complementing the work of existing security agencies.

Archbishop Ugorji congratulated the newly trained cadets for their dedication and urged them to uphold the values instilled in them during training, emphasizing that their role transcends employment to a calling of honor and compassion in service and protection.

He also praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for his commitment to security and appealed for state support in providing logistical needs such as mobility and communication gadgets for the outfit.

Representing Governor Uzodimma, Chief Cosmas Iwu acknowledged the Archbishop’s initiative, highlighting the critical role of security in fostering development.

“If all of us make time and invest resources in securing our families, we will collectively secure the state,” he said.

He reiterated the state government’s ongoing support for security agencies and encouraged other religious bodies to emulate the Archdiocese’s example in enhancing community safety.

Chief Jerry Chukwueke, Chairman of the Occasion, echoed support for the Archbishop’s efforts and commended the initiative for creating job opportunities for youth while promising ongoing technical assistance.

Rev. Fr. Brig Gen Charles Iroegbu, Director of Owerri Archdiocesan Security Services, emphasized the outfit’s unique position as the first incorporated faith-based security organization in Nigeria, expressing gratitude for the Archdiocese’s pioneering initiative.

The passing-out parade ceremony was attended by government officials, clergy, religious faithful, and dignitaries, underscoring broad support for the initiative to enhance security within the Archdiocese.
