The abduction of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola a Female Medical Practitioner at National Eye Care, her husband, and visiting nephew from the hospital staff quarters on December 27th, 2023, 8 months ago is a stark reminder of the menace that threatens to undermine our healthcare system. This incident coupled with the kidnapping of 19 medical students, a house officer, and a resident doctor in Anambra State, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for immediate action.

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has rightly condemned these heinous crimes and threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if their colleagues are not released unconditionally. This ultimatum serves as a wake-up call for the federal government to take decisive measures to address the rampant kidnapping that has become a norm in our society.
