NACJ Commends Imo Government On Insurance Package For Police

The Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ) has commended the recent pronouncement by Imo State Government led by Governor Hope Uzodimma to arrange insurance package for the Police officers serving in the state.
The expressed its support for the police through its South East Coordinator, Hon. Uche Onwuchekwa, who is also the Managing Editor of NewsTrack Nigeria (newstrack.com.ng).
Mr. Onwuchekwa described the move as a step in the right direction.
He therefore called on the Officers to uphold the ethics and ethos of the profession, saying that their responsibility remains very critical to the peaceful co-existence of the citizenry, especially as it concerns security of life and property.
He also called for caution on the part of the populace to respect police officers and other security agencies since they occupy a very important position in the in the web of interrelationship in the Polity.
Imo State Government had promised to provide insurance package for police officers serving in the state.
Governor Uzodimma stated this on Tuesday, June 15, when he paid a condolence / thank you visit to the state Police Command Headquarters in Owerri.
He expressed dismay over the killing of police officers who were performing their duties by unknown gunmen adding that his government would no longer fold it’s arm and allow hoodlums to wreck havock in the state.
Hear him,” Government will support and supply all logistics needed to crush bandits and miscreants disturbing the peace of the state, so that our people can sleep with their two eyes close. Also, we will establish an insurance policy for all police officers serving in the state, which will equally benefit their family members and boost their morale towards achieving productivity as they carry out their lawful duties”.
He stressed that the police is now the last hope of the common man, adding that if the force is challenged it means that the entire nation is in danger.
He used the occasion to warn those faning the embers of violence in the state to desist from such practice or face the wrath of the law.
In his speech, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro thanked the governor for identifying with the police during their trying time and assured him that the command would continue to gurrantee the protection of lives and property of Imo people.
He called on Imolites to go about their businesses as normalcy has been restored to the state, even as he urged the residents to cooperate with the police by giving useful information about the happenings in the neighborhood.
Highpoint of the occasion was the donation of security hilux vans to the command by the Governor.
It would be recalled that the state government had earlier paid N5 million each to families of policemen who were killed while on duty in the state.
