NOGALSS Partners Imo Government To Stamp Out Illiteracy By The Year 2030

The Non-governmental Association For Literacy Support Services (NOGALSS), Imo State Chapter has reiterated its poise to take the lead in the campaign to eradicate illiteracy in the nooks and crannies of Imo State.



The Chairperson of the group, Dame Chibuzo Oriuwa made the statement on Monday during an interactive session with the Director of State Agency For Mass Education (SAME) when they paid her a working visit.



Dame Chibuzo stressed the need for partnership with SAME and other relevant MDAs, so as to have a smooth sail at the hinterlands while delivering on its core objectives, which is to eradicate illiteracy by the year 2030.



“We are happy for this meeting. NOGALSS cannot afford work alone without SAME, given the import of the agency in mass literacy. We were directed by our National President to ensure we have a collaboration with state government for a united action.

“There is a new drive to ensure that all NGOs register with NOGALSS. Some States have begun before now. Because of the security challenges we had in the state, we were crippled. We are back and are already running to achieve an appreciable result.

“We require support from the government. We also seek partnership with a view to collectively drive the agenda of reaching out to those at the grassroots levels”, she enthused.

Speaking, the Coordinator for Cooperative unit of NOGALSS, Imo State, Mrs. Ihuoma Onwuchekwa, disclosed that there is a welfare arrangement for members of NOGALSS, which will serve as encouragement and motivation as they focus on the set goals.

In her response, the Director of SAME, Mrs. Petrolina Anyanwu expressed happiness for the visit, saying she had been expectant even though she was newly posted to the agency.

She promised to mobilise all the liaison officers of the Agency from the 27 Local government areas of the state to key into the project and become part of the drivers for effective delivery, after she had sought to know how far the association had gone in the state and challenges.

She also promised to sensitise other staff at the state Ministry of Education on the project while assuring NOGALSS of the opportunity to address the liaison officers from the local government councils.
