BREAKING: INEC Declares Anambra Election Inconclusive, As Soludo Commanding Lead In 18 LGAs
– Supplementary Elections Holds Tuesday, Nov. 9
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of results for the Anambra State governorship election.
The Returning Officer for the Anambra State governorship election, Professor Florence Obi, declared the election inconclusive on Sunday night after the Commission announced election results in 20 of the 21 local government areas of the State.
Professor Obi said the failure to conduct election in Ihiala Local Government on election day has made it impossible to reach a definite conclusion under the Electoral Act on the result of the election.
The collation officer for Ihiala LGA, had on Sunday, said there was no election in the entire area.
However, Obi declared that the election process remains suspended until after a supplementary election is held in all the polling units of Ihiala Local Government.
The supplementary polls will be held in 326 Polling Units in Ihiala on Tuesday the 9th of November, 2021.
Prof Obi explained that election did not hold in Ihiala Local Government Area because the commission was unable to deploy officials and materials due to security threats on the 6th of November 2021.
She added that INEC is required by the constitution to conduct election in the affected area before proceeding to announce a winner.
“We have collated results for 20 local government areas, and Ihiala is still outstanding as the commission was unable to deploy to the area.
“Based on constitutional provision, supplementary election will be held in Ihiala. So we have to conclude the election in Ihiala to be able to conclude the process.
“I plead with you to support INEC, so we can bring this election to a conclusion, to the glory of God. The election for Ihiala will hold on November 9″, she said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won 18 of the 20 Local Governments election results so far declared by INEC.
The APGA governorship candidate lost Ogbaru LGA to the PDP and Nnewi North LGA to YPP.
Announcing the votes of all the candidates in the election, Prof Obi said the APGA governorship candidate polled 103,946 votes to lead Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who ganered 51,322 votes to emerge second, while Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 42,942 votes to emerge third.
Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, came fourth with 20,917 votes.
There were a total of 246,638 registered voters and 241,090 accredited voters in the election.
The total valid votes stood at 229,521 while rejected votes were 7,841. A total of 237,362 votes were cast in the election.
The final Result in 20 of the 21 LGAs as declared by the Returning Officer of the Anambra State governorship election, Professor Florence Obi are:
