A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Personnel attached to the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Lance Corporal Ogah Bercy, has died of complications from a snakebite in her toilet at the NAF Base Bill Clinton Drive Abuja.
It was gathered from reliable sources that Bercy died on 19 November 2021 at the NAF hospital Abuja, where she went for treatment after the snakebite.
The anti-venom was not administered on time, it was reported, resulting in the death of the victim.
“She was told by the hospital that the person with the key to to where the anti-venom is stored was not around,” a source told The Nation.
“Since the fumigation was
done recently, the snake must have entered the chamber and was looking
for an escape route and saw the late Ogah’s house as a safest place
because it was not fumigated”.
The source recommended that all offices and living quarters in the base should be fumigated to get rid of all reptiles and lectures on safety techniques on managing snake bites should be conducted as well as making provision for more anti-venom.
Efforts to get the NAF to confirm the incident were abortive as the Director Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, could not be reached on phone.
He also didn’t reply the WhatsApp message sent to him.
