The search for Governor Mai Mala Buni replacement as the National Chairman of Party may have come to and end with the reported endorsement of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
While North Central has been on the card for the exalted office, former Governors of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
According sources, President Muhammadu Buhari has given his blessings and ultimately favoured Adamu for the position.
Our sources disclosed that it was already a done deal and that was why Senator Adamu hosted some governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after the convention meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the party zoned the chairmanship position to the North and also agreed on consensus to fill vacant National Working Committee (NWC) positions, according to the Governor of Kebbi State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Atiku Bagudu, who briefed the media.
However, it is unclear what Adamu’s meeting with the governors was about, but it held after the critical Aso Rock gathering.
Among those who visited Adamu were Governors Simon Lalong (Plateau), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Sani Bello (Niger) and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara).
The governors are all from the North Central, where Adamu, a former Nasarawa governor, hails from.
Its unclear if it was a purely strategic meeting or that of an endorsement.
The ruling party has fixed its convention for March 26, 2022.
