NATO Not To Send Troops To Ukraine, But To Provide Other Sorts Of Aid

On Tuesday Polish President Andrzej Duda and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the Alliance will not send troops to Ukraine, after their talks concerning the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in Łask, central Poland, where Polish Army F-16 and American F-15 fighters are stationed, taking part in the NATO airspace surveillance mission in the Baltic States.

”Our entire community must maintain unity,” Polish President

President Duda emphasised that the visit of the NATO Secretary General underscores the importance of the task that Polish and American soldiers are performing here.

The head of the Polis state said that the main subject of conversation was the current security situation, the tasks that are being performed at the base in Łask, and what steps are needed to strengthen the security of the Alliance’s eastern flank.

“Yesterday, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and I participated in an online meeting with (US) President Joe Biden and the presidents of NATO member states. We agreed that the North Atlantic Alliance, our entire community must maintain unity and we must stand together by Ukraine because we cannot allow the fact that a country in Europe is occupied, attacked militarily or has its borders changed,” he stressed.

The head of the Polish state stressed that together with Secretary General Stoltenberg, they reviewed the next steps to be taken by NATO to raise security on its eastern frontier, of which Poland constitutes a considerable part. “We discussed the security situation, we spoke about the tasks… and steps necessary to strengthen the eastern flank of the Alliance,” the President told reporters.

NATO will not send forces to Ukraine – Secretary General

In turn, the NATO Secretary General stated that the Alliance “does not want to be a part of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, therefore we are not planning to send any forces to Ukraine, nor will we send aircraft to Ukrainian airspace.”

However, the head of the Alliance emphasised that “NATO stands in solidarity with Ukraine and has imposed huge costs on Russia for its unjustified aggression.”

NATO is helping in other ways

He also pointed out that “NATO is also providing military support, we are sending military equipment, we are sending anti-tank weapons, anti-aircraft weapons, and other types of equipment, in addition to providing humanitarian and financial assistance.”

Mr Stoltenberg also emphasised that by attacking Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin had “ruined peace in Europe.” He described Russia’s invasion as “brutal and totally unjustified,” and criticised Belarusian authorities for aiding Moscow.

“Russia’s conduct is totally unacceptable, and it is being enabled by Belarus,” the NATO head said.

He concluded his statement by saying that the past weeks have seen a considerable strengthening of NATO forces in the east as well as raised readiness of NATO’s rapid response forces and the deployment of French rapid response units to Romania later on Tuesday.
