Gunmen Kill Two Prison Officials In Imo

Two prison officers were killed yesterday at Umulolo in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.

The attack caused panic in the area as people scampered for safety following an explosion at the scene.

A security source said the officials were ambushed.

“The attackers threw dynamites into two Hilux vans of the officials, two of whom   were killed on the spot while others were wounded and have been rushed to hospital. It was also reported that one Hilux van was destroyed by the dynamite while the other was not affected,” the source said.

“The unaffected van has been returned to base at the command headquarters in Owerri…The officials took off from Owerri in the morning and on reaching Okigwe, the gunmen, attacked them.”

Spokesman for the Owerri Correctional Centre, Goodluck Uboegbulem, said, “We have gone on-the-spot assessment, and it is only when we are through that we can speak to you.”

Police confirmed the attack.
