2023: Buhari’s Statement On ‘Successor’ Treasonable – Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, former Special Assistant on Social Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday said it is “treasonable” for President Muhammadu Buhari to declare that he wants to pick his successor.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Buhari on Tuesday told governors of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he would want to pick his “successor, who would fly the flag of the party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023”.

Speaking at a meeting with governors elected on the APC platform at the State House, Abuja, Buhari said he needs the governors to support him to do so.

Reacting, Omokri criticised Buhari, saying his intent “is wrong”.

“It is wrong for Buhari to singlehandedly pick the Presidential candidate of the APC. But Tinubu has no moral grounds to complain about that. However, it is treasonable for Buhari to say he will pick his successor. Nigerians will pick his successor!” Omokri wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

He added: “The reality is that Buhari is not even politically savvy enough to anoint his successor. Look at his own state. His nephews were defeated at the APC primary. In Kano, his aides were defeated. And in 2023, his candidate will be defeated by Nigerians!”
