Naira Marley, Zaki Onye Aba And Addiction

It is incontrovertible that the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) in the recent times have gone all out to rid Nigeria of abuse of hard drugs and salvage the youths from its disastrous consequences.

Recently, Naira Marley, one of the front line singers in the Nigerian music industry has been in the news for strategic partnership for which the NDLEA seeks, with a view to drawing teeming Nigerians whose future have grown dim as a result drug addiction. the same way, a gifted and talented young man, Emenike OGBONNAYA popularly known as Zaki Onye Aba was recently featured on a Facebook platform.

Zaki who is at present at the Rehab recently celebrated one full month of a life without drugs, where he has called on all and sundry to say no to drugs.

However controversial Naira Marley’s partnership and upcoming Zaki may seem, not trying at all would be a dearth of dearth of patriotic zeal to help Nigeria sustain healthy and vibrant productive demographic.

What is Addiction?

The 2023 United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking theme was: “People First, Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention.”

According to google, addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences. It is considered a brain disorder, because it involves functional changes to brain circuits involved in reward, stress, and self-control.

One Popular multi talented comedian and a musician Mr. Emenike, aka Zaki ezigbote onye Aba has meddled with drugs for years and become so dependent that anytime he gets money, he invests it on Drugs of any kind. He has made millions, got favoured by his fans and willed them all to Drugs even to an extent of becoming a junkie.

Alot of people like clergies that loved him for his gospel singing style, his family members and fans played a huge role to help him quit, but to no avail.
One day, a popular Aba content creator and a comedian, popularly known as DBiggest Mouth made a video of him singing and uploaded on his page. This video triggered the lovers of good music and entertainment to mobilize and plead he should be sent to Rehabilitation centre for treatment and counselling.

Zaki seeing so much love from his fans more especially Abians and Igbos in Diaspora, felt so weak and disappointed for letting them down for Years in the expense of drug consumption, so he opted for rehabilitation.

Zaki got enrolled in NDLEA Abia State Command Rehabilitation Centre with the Support and aide of The PRO NDLEA Abia State Command, The Content creator known as DbiggestMouth, Mr. Samuel, Zaki’s Jnr brother and Zaki’s Fans.
Today, Zaki is doing so well and responding to treatment and counselling in NDLEA Abia State Rehab Centre.

He wasn’t stigmatized or discriminated, rather he was shown love and support. He promised to go back to Milverton York ABA a popular drug spot and other known joints to preach against drugs and how drugs took over him for years.

In the Same Vein, Naira Marley declared interest to support the advocacy on War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) and alot of People are making mockery and derision of him and saying he is not serious even when he admonished his Marlian followers publicly to withdraw from substance and drug abuse.

Note: Don’t stigmatize a Drug Dependent Person or a user, addiction is a sickness that requires urgent attention, support and professionalism to exempt one from it.

Change is constant and one who is addicted can be liberated and also become Drug Free.
Majority of the Drug users are tired and ready to quit or give up but it isn’t easy for them until they get professional help. Whoever that doesn’t know the meaning of addiction should go into deep research.

Naira Marley supporting the campaign against Drug Abuse has seen the negative effects and harm on substance or drug abuse to mankind and was very bold to speak on and shun users.
His approach to liberate his fans and fellow marlians from drugs is humane, applaudable and also a bold step.

The Narcotic Agency (NDLEA) didn’t bully him rather they welcomed him with love, support and hoping that more users will do the same when they see their Role Model willingly gave up on drugs.
