Topic: Leadership is not a position

An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. Titis 1:6-9

Have you ever thought about being a leader? Maybe you think it’s too hard or you’re not good enough. But did you know that as a follower of Jesus, you are called to be a leader? In the Bible, Paul wrote a job description for leaders in the church. He said they should be blameless, faithful, not overbearing, not quick-tempered, self-controlled, holy, and disciplined. These are all qualities that we can work on having in our own lives. Simply put, Titus 1:5-9, talks about being a leader in a special group, like a church. They want leaders who are trustworthy, stick around, not bossy, patient, and good at staying chill. Being a good friend is part of the deal too! Jesus also called Peter to be a leader in John 21:15-17. He told him to feed and care for His sheep. We can do the same by sharing Jesus with others and showing them what He’s doing in our lives.Being a leader doesn’t mean you have to have a special title or position. You can be a leader at home, with your friends, or at school. You can show others what it looks like to follow Jesus by being kind, patient, and loving. Let’s pray and ask God to help us be the leaders He’s called us to be.

Thoughts for Reflection
“Being a leader means setting a good example for others. In Titus 1:5-9, we learn about the qualities that make a good leader in the church. But these qualities can also apply to our everyday lives. Are we being honest, kind, and responsible? Are we treating others with respect and love? Let’s think about how we can be leaders in our own homes, schools, and communities by showing these qualities to others. Remember, being a leader doesn’t mean being perfect. It means striving to do our best and continuously growing in these qualities. Even as kids, we have the power to make a positive impact on those around us.

Prayer
Dear God, thank you for calling us to be leaders. Help us to have the qualities that Paul wrote about in the Bible. Show us how we can be leaders in our homes, with our friends, and at school. Help us to follow Jesus and show others what it looks like to love Him and how awesome You are. In Jesus name, Amen.
