Man goes berserk, kills own children in Ebonyi

An Anambra State based vulcanizer Chinasa Ogbaga has reportedly butchered his two children Chikamso and Chizaram to death in Ebonyi State.

A third child, Emmanuel is lying critical at the hospital from injuries sustained from the attack.

The incident happened at Egwuagu in Okpuitumo Community, Abakaliki local government area of the State where the suspect hails from.

The suspect who divorced his wife recently killed the children in a nearby bush in the community after returning from the farm with his aged mother.

He was said to have sharpened his knife and claimed that he was going for frog hunting.

It was learnt that the mother argued with him on why he should be going for frog hunting, but he insisted on going ahead.

This led to a quarrel with the mother during which he threatened to attack her with the knife.

The frightened mother left the compound to sleep in her elder brother’s house.

It was further learnt that, the suspect after sharpening the cuttlass targeted when the entire family had gone to bed and started picking the children one after the other from sleep to the nearby farm where he slithe their throat and dismembered some parts of their bodies.

The suspect slaughtered two children Chikamso, a male (6years) and Chizaram, a female (4years) at different positions in the farm and left one , Emmanuel ,a male ,2years critically injured .

The little boy was later rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, (AE-FETHA) for medical treatment

Uncle to the suspect, Mr. Emmanuel Nwambam, who spoke to journalists, explained that the family received the news with shock and rushed to the compound on that Monday night where they met the rescued child on his pool of blood.

“Emmanuel was rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal teaching hospital, but we didn’t know that he had slaughtered two others in a nearby bush”.

According to him, Mr.Chinasa, a vulcanizer, based in Onitsha, Anambra State had returned home few days ago and went to the farm with his mother, after their return, he sharpened the cuttlass but unknown to them that he was planning to kill the children.

He explained that after committing the crime, he was caught by a vigilante officer in the village who asked him why he was moving with Cutlass at the late hour of the night.

He engaged the vigilante in a shouting match after which entered into the home of one of the villagers who is a police officer.

He begged the policeman to shot him dead for he had committed an abomination and doesn’t deserve to live again.

But the police officer ordered him to sit on the ground and he asked him to confess his crime.

He then told the Officcer how he had matcheted his two sons.

He refused to disclosed to him that they were already dead until morning when they were discovered.

Mr Nwambam said the suspect was handed over to the Police when the mayhem was discovered.

He described the action as inhumane and called on the security agency to punish him according to the law.

The mother, Mrs.Ogbaga disclosed that Mr.Chinasa divorced his wife early 2019  and since has been living peacefully with his children whom he enrolled in a private school in the community.

She said: “since the Chinasa divorced his wife things have not be the same again,  he visits home regularly to see his three children who lived in the village with me.

“My son was confirmed to be possessed recently (Ogbanje spirit) she suspected the spirit caused his abnormal behaviour.

She said she left the compound for her brother’s house that night  to avoid being beaten up if she tries to stop him from going for the hunting that night.

The Woman said that her son despite his menial handiwork, loved the children as he always provide for them even while he was away.

She expressed fear that his actions was not ordinary.

Police spokesman, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.

According to her, the Divisional Police Officer, Ekumenyi Division reported the incident to the state headquarters.

She added that investigation was ongoing to know the root cause of the killing.

Odah said that suspect would be arraigned in the court after investigations.
