Imo athletes, others escape death as another Okorocha’s legacy collapses
Imo athletes camped in Dan Anyiam Stadium are thanking their God for miraculously saving them from what would have been a disastrous calamity from the collapse of Grasshopper Handball stadium.
The windy rainfall of Tuesday evening had swept off one of Rochas Okorocha’s supposed legacy overboard due to the alleged usage of substandard materials.
When NewsTrack visited the scene, the athletes who were gathered in groups, praising for divinely saving their lives from the collapse.

Speaking with the Director, Imo State Commission, Mrs. Chizotam Aritola, she expressed worries over the total collapsed of a supposed steal covered pavilion, saying that it has not only affected the psyche of the athletes but has also put everyone in fear against other structures.
She also confirmed that the structure was hurriedly put up during the last days of the former governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in office.
Responding to question over the contractor that did shoddy job, she said: “I do not know the contractor. It was neither under Governor Hope Uzodinma nor Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was the cover constructed but under Okorocha’s administration.
“I am worried because this would caused a massacre here were it not for God’s intervention. The materials are wholly substandard. That was why the structure could not withstand a little windy weather. Our athletes who are in camp here are traumatised and we are working hard to manage them.”
Meanwhile a close look at the twisted steels will reveal a very light capacity steal that can only pass for a roofing sheets but were used as steel columns.
Some of the staff of the commission who spoke on the condition of anonymity called for probe into the the construction of such a shabby life threatening structure. They described the project as a mere conduit to retire embezzled fund if not means of looting the treasury of the state.
Recall that virtually 80% of Okorocha road projects and other infrastucture are either on the verge of collapse or undergoing rehabilitation.
Meanwhile the only structure that was not affected by the wind was the old structure.
