Everight Healthcare Foundation calls for involvement of Traditional Rulers, other stakeholders in fight against Covid – 19

The Everight Healthcare Foundation has raised alarm over a likely uncontrollable spread of the ravaging scourge of Covid – 19 in communities, calling for an all inclusive action plan to prevent the avoidable danger.

The Foundation made the call through its Chairman, Board of Trustees, Everest Okpara when the group embarked on save a soul outreach in an Ideato Community in Dimagu autonomous community, Isiekenensi, Ideato South local government area of Imo State, where they shared 200 bags of rice and other items.

Addressing the people of the community, he frowned at the non compliance of the basic prescribed social distancing as most of them still believe there is nothing like Coronavirus.

Okpara who spoke in Igbo said: “Our dear good people of Dimagu, as I stepped in here today, I found it very uncomfortable seeing you all staying too close for comfort. There is need for you to first believe that Covid – 19 is real. It is killing in thousands and millions have been infected globally. It does not discriminate. It is infecting old and young. The best approach to stop this is for us not to get infected because if you do, your loved ones will also get infected. Will it be good for all you to die because of ignorance and carelessness? he queried.

He therefore advised that they should maintain social distancing, stop handshakes, always wash their hands and not touch their faces when they are in public. Avoid crowded gathering. And if any of you is sick and you have fever and to sing it difficult to breath please isolate your self to avoid infecting your families, kinsmen and other loved ones. The matter should be reported to the appropriate office.”

Meanwhile,he called for the need for the Traditional Rulers’ and other community leaders to be coopted into Covid – task force in the area of enlightenment, enforcement and reporting and suspected case to the appropriate quarters.

He promised that Everight Healthcare Foundation will continue to liaise with stakeholders and the government to do its part in the area of its core competence in healthcare diagnostics and molecular science.
