Govt. Banditry: Wike, Rivers’ Leaders Give Fed. Govt. 48-hour To Probe Siege, Invasion Of Odili’s Abuja Residence

Following the unfortunate drama of invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s Abuja residence, Governor Nyesom Wike and leaders of Rivers State have issued 48-hour ultimatum to Muhammadu Buhari led federal government to bring to book those behind the banditry, which occurred last Friday.

The Rivers leaders warned that should anything sinister happen to Justice Odili, her husband and former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili, the federal government should be held accountable.

Wike made the assertion on behalf of Rivers State elders, federal and state lawmakers and council chairmen during a press briefing at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Sunday.

The governor said they have observed a pattern of persistent harassment of the Odili’s family in recent times by alleged agents of the federal government.

He recalled that on a fateful day the Supreme Court nullified the election victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, hoodlums suspected to be political thugs invaded the residence of Justice Odili, but the federal government didn’t take any steps to bring the culprits to book.

Governor Wike noted that just recently, Dr Odili had legitimately travelled out of the country for medicals, but on his arrival, his international passport was confiscated for inexplicable reasons by the Immigration Service.

Armed men suspected to be of a joint task force of EFCC, Police and SSS for recovery had held the Abuja Residence of Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria hostage for over five hours.

However the Magistrate who issued warrants for Odili’s residence based on whistle blowers claims, has cried out accusing the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) of fooling her into taking a wrong decision.

With the denials.from various quarters, it is rather worrisome to note that most agencies involved in the operation are denying. EFCC had denied.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), yesterday exonerated his ministry from the invasion of the residence of a Supreme Court judge, Justice Mary Odili in Abuja, and ordered a full investigation into the matter.

Over 50 officers suspected operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and members of the Joint Panel Recovery unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice, had in Friday evening, invaded the house of the senior justice located at Imo River Street, Maitama.
