Again, Bandits Strikes, Kill 15 In Sokoto Attacks

As 15 were bducted in Delta, Niger

Sokoto State government yesterday confirmed that bandits  killed 15 persons in two of its councils.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal said the 15 were killed when the gunmen invaded  Goronyo and Illela councils between Sunday night and yesterday morning.

The governor released the grim information shortly before presenting the state’s 2022 draft budget to members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

Giving some detail on the incident, he said 12 persons  were killed in Illela and three in Goronyo.

The governor condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones in the  attacks, as well as people of the affected communities.

In Delta, 11 persons were abducted on Sunday evening in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South council of the state.

All the abductees were later rescued.

The Nation learned that the hoodlums shot randomly during the abduction.

ome of those abducted reportedly ran into the bushes to escape from the assailants.

“Some of the abductees sustained gunshot wounds but thank God some of them escaped. My sister-in-law returned to my house without slippers,” a resident told The Nation.

Police spokesman Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, saying all the victims were promptly rescued.

“That incident occurred in Oleh around IDU Roundabout. They were actually kidnapped but due to the prompt response of our men, about 11 of them were all rescued alive.

“One person was shot but is currently receiving treatment,” he said.

In Niger, no fewer than four persons were abducted by gunmen in an attack on a water processing factory in Tegina, Rafi council of the state.

The gunmen attacked the factory on Sunday night.

A source said the gunmen  shot into the air as they entered the community, and residents scampered for safety.

The factory is near Government Girls’ Secondary School in Tegina, it was said.

In May, 156 pupils were abducted from Salihu Tanko Islamic School in the community.
