Diamond Special School Emerges Winner Of Imo State Schools Debate Competition

Diamond Special School, Owerri Imo State on December 4, 2021 emerge winner of Mariakos Schools Connect Competition.

In a keenly contested maiden edition of the School Debate Competition, Diamond Special School known for its academic excellence won with over 91 percent.

Its closest rival was Mountain Crest Schools scored 78 percent as others dropped during the second round.

The Lead Speaker for DSS was Uche Emmanuel Onwuchekwa supported by Akaneme Chukwudera, Egwim Gift while the school Ambassador who introduced the school was Chimaobi Chinaza.

The topic under discussion was the “Fall in the Standard of Education Is The Fault of the Parents and Not the Teachers. DSS argued for while Mountain Crest argued against.

Meanwhile previous topics preceding to the grand finale were “The Advent Of Social Has Reduced the Attention Parents Give to their Children’s Academic Work, Should Parents Choose Career for Their Children Than Allowing Them Choose for Themselves.”

The children gave a very good account of themselves, as the did not only speak eloquently but their ability to counter objections from other debaters exposed their high high level of ‘Intelligence Quotient”.

The Permanent Secretary, Imo State Ministry of Education who was represented by Mr. Paul commended the Makarios Initiative for Health & Humanitarian Development for choosing to tow a line of catching the children young by trying to give them direction that will shape them for the future.

He suggested that the group makes it an annual event. He promised that the Min. of Education is prepared to partner with the group.

He escribed the Prioprietors as partners in progress. He commended for giving out quality education and for providing employments for teeming Imolites.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Initiative, Pastor Lauretta revealed that her father was a teacher. “He took passion in grooming people into great personality. So, coming up with this initiative in honour of my father is a dream come true”, she said

She thanked parents, teachers, Head Teachers for believing in their children.

She said that every ‘child is genius’. She warned against exam malpractices, encouraging parents, teachers to help the children before their exams instead of helping them during exams.

She called for partnership from good spirited Nigerians, Corporate Bodies and others.
