Revealed: Three Imo Assembly Lawmakers Allegedly Suspended For Attending Okorocha’s Son-In-Law’s Mother’s Burial

Emerging facts indicates that the suspension of three members of Imo State House of Assembly, may not be unconnected with their attendance at the burial ceremony of Uche Nwosu, son-in-law of the former Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha.

Three of the lawmakers suspended Hon. Arthur Egwim (Ideato North constituency), Hon Ngozi Obiefule (Isu Constituency) and Hon Obinna Okwara (Nkwerre Constituency).

The Speaker, Kennedy Ibeh announced their suspension on the floor of the House, Thursday.

The reason advanced for Kennedy Ibe’s action: “The governor presented the 2022 budget, the house promised to give it an accelerated hearing. These lawmakers ignored to participate in the sitting and the speaker was angry with their action, therefore they were suspended.”

The trio were elected to the House in 2019 on the platform of the Action Alliance, AA, a party Uche Nwosu had emerged its governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election.

Okwara, who represents Nkwerre State Constituency, is Nwosu’s kinsman.

Nwosu’s mum funeral, Late Jemimah had taken place at Eziama Obiare in Nkwerre LGA.

Among dignitaries who attended the funeral include two former governors of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu popularly called Obi Cubana and many other dignitaries.

A source said the trio attended the funeral, and “is it not strange that after they attended the funeral, they were suspended from the House 24 hours later”

According to sources, the embattled lawmakers presence at Uche Nwosu’s mother’s funeral had infuriated Hope Uzodimma’s political camp, as it gave them away as spies who may have been trading vital information with Okorocha’s camp.

In defence of the action of Mr. Speaker, Samuelson Iwuoha has, in a long essay, attributed attributed the suspension of the trio to absenteeism and for keeping away during the debates on Imo 2022 appropriation bill presented by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

He went on memory lane, revealing number of times the said embattled lawmakers came for plenary session.

The action of the Speaker may have been pleaded to be just but it’s coincidence with the date under review suggests curious coincidence.

Imo State Assembly from all indication may have become one of the unsettled, troubled chambers if not the most troubled.

From Okorocha’s administration to the present, the Imo Assembly has only transited from one 7 assembly to 8 assembly remaining a seeming programmable tool by executive arm.
