Nigeria’s Recession Takes Another Dimension As Woman Puts Up 5-Year-Old Boy To Market For Sale In Port-Harcourt

There was confusion in a market at Bishop Okoye Street in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday as an unknown woman brought a five-year-old boy whom she claimed is her child and put him up for sale.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 3:40p.m as customers and traders surrounded the woman in amazement.

Former Vice Chairman of Goat Meat Sellers Association, Bishop Okoye branch, Mr Nelson Tasie, who reportedly witnessed the scene told a source that the woman said that life was very difficult for her and she could no longer take care of herself and the child, which was why she opted to sell him.

Mr Tasie said that since he was in haste he advised that the woman and the child should be taken to the Nkpolu Police Division, Mile 3 Diobu, so that the police could wade into the matter.

The former Vice Chairman of Goat Meat Sellers Association disclosed that concerned traders and customers were on their way with the woman and her child to the police station when he left the scene.

The police were yet to respond officially to the incident. (Sunday Sun)
