Miyetti Allah leader’s Case Trial Adjurned To May 29
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the trial of Bello Bodejo, the detained leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, for May 29. Justice Inyang Ekwo fixed the date after dismissing Bodejo’s application for bail.
According to Channels, the court had previously adjourned the case for ruling and trial, but Bodejo’s absence stalled the proceedings.
However, his counsel, Ahmed Raji, expressed readiness for trial, citing the court’s order for an expeditious hearing. Raji opted not to appeal the bail ruling, focusing on the upcoming trial instead.
Bodejo, arrested by the Defence Intelligence Agency in March, faces three counts filed by the Attorney General of the Federation.
He is accused of unlawfully establishing an ethnic militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya, to promote terrorism, violating the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Bodejo has denied all charges.
Before the bail ruling, his lawyer argued for bail citing ill health and fundamental rights, but the court dismissed the application. Bodejo remains in DIA custody in Abuja.
