JUST IN: Achuba removed from office as Kogi Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba has been removed from office by Kogi State House of Assembly

The State legislature had moved to removed Mr. Achuba from office following his utterances on the National television, an outburst they described as gross misconduct.

The lawmakers had impeached Achuba shortly after they received report of a panel of inquiry constituted by the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajana.

Recall that 21 members of Kogi State House of Assembly had signed a petition against Mr. achuba presented on the floor by the Majority Leader,  Hon. Abdullahi Bello.

Recall that the rift between Achuba and Bello came to the public notice after Achuba wrote a pre-action notice urging the governor to pay the accumulated sum of N819,709,980 owed to him.

The sum is the accumulated statutory allocations which include travel allowances, hotel bills, pledges, and outstanding monthly impress and salaries which has been withheld from Achuba’s office for the past two years.

In the letter, dated July 17, 2019, Achuba accused Bello of consistently refusing to give approval for the release of funds for the smooth running of his office.

Achuba had warned he will seek redress in the National Industrial Court if the Governor continues to withhold his allocations. he had given seven days ultimatum after which he will approach the court.

Rising from a meeting with Abba Kyari, President Mohammadu Buhari’s Chief of State last week, he addressed the media revealing that his relationship with his estranged boss, Governor Yahaya Bello  is “not very smooth”. He was also quick to add that efforts were being made to reconcile their differences.
